While you’re layering on the patriotic colors to celebrate Independence Day, why not give the dessert table a little red, white and blue treatment too? We saw fireworks when we discovered JARS by DANI’s deliciously decadent homemade parties in a jar, and decided to take it next level together, with this layered cake.
To create: Follow the instructions for the cake mix and add in drops of food coloring to the batter. Create two cake batters, a red and a blue mix. Bake the cakes accordingly. Once cool, use a knife to carve the cake into a circular shape that will fit into the 9″ trifle bowl. Carefully insert the first layer of the carved red cake into the bowl. For the second layer, cover the top of the cake in an even coat of sprinkles. Carve and insert a layer of blue cake. Add a layer of white chocolate chips then a layer of whipped cream and repeat layering until the entire trifle bowl is filled. Top it off with a decorative flag, line up chocolate chips to create stars and stripes; fill in red and blue areas with sprinkles.
