Of all the greatest DIY’s in the world, I can finally say that this is truly my favorite! After all, making an actual human being is pretty much the most epic project ever. I’m about 5 months into this unreal (but very real) journey of creating a tiny person and every day I’m learning, feeling, and thinking something new. It’s wild!
10 fingers. 10 toes. A real mover and a shaker, just like his mama. This kid is nonstop and really has put me through the ringer. And by that, I mean morning sickness. However, I would officially like to change the name to “all day sickness.”
I found out on a Monday I was pregnant. Cut to, the following Saturday when I got really sick in a restaurant alley and every day since then, it’s been a rough road. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all worth it- however when a strong smell or even simply touching a soft peach can send you straight to the bathroom, it’s never pretty.
I called myself the “Carb Queen” for the first trimester because the only thing I wanted to eat was bread, crackers, pretzels, pasta, and pizza. I feel like I really set a world record for consumption of English muffins and mac + cheese. Veggies, fish, chicken all sounded horrible to me. Don’t worry, I’m finally out of the exclusive carb club and fully having all the delicious and nutritious things, as well as my fare share of ice cream!
Oh, boy is right! I was so excited and eager to find out the sex of this baby. I find it fascinating that people can still wait until actually giving birth to hear the doctor yell out, “It’s a BOY! Or It’s a GIRL!” Bless you. I didn’t have that kind of patience. I also felt like this would help me connect, plan and daydream a little before their actual arrival.
We cut into our mini grocery store vanilla cake (which was delicious btw) anxiously waiting to see if there was blue or pink icing in between the layers. I already knew deep down it was a boy. I just felt it.
The funny thing was, if it was a girl we totally knew what her name was going to be. Not to mention, I fully saw what that would look like… ballet classes, gymnastics, headbands, and more.
I’m a firm believer that you get what the universe gives you to grow, to be a better person, and to help with finding purpose. And that’s the reason why we are having a baby boy! Thanks universe 🙂
As someone who is usually an Energizer bunny on the go, dealing with the exhaustion was so weird and totally new for me to navigate. These photos were from the afternoon we were shooting our Pickling project, and yes- I had lots of pickles as cliché as that may sound.
For the first time, I’ve really had to listen to my body. When I need to rest, I rest…a lot. When I need to eat, I eat… a lot.
This was ironically the day that my Bump App told me the baby was the size of an artichoke. I have been very into the fun little daily facts and food/size comparisons they give you. I find that cute and silly milestones such as “your baby’s foot is the size of a soda can tab” make for a great way to start the day. That said, you can totally get lost on the internet with all this pregnancy stuff – and let me tell you it can get scary, dark and real.
Recently, I‘ve really started to lean into summer and let it all hang out. All the sickness aside, this process has been mind-blowing. Seeing and feeling all the daily changes big and small that happen are the best. I love my curves, some days more than others. I love being able to rub this belly and know he’s in there doing backflips just getting strong and healthy to make his debut this winter.
We always knew we would be parents one day… we just didn’t know when. What I have to say to anyone planning, dreaming, wishing, trying, and praying… your baby is out there too and whenever or wherever they come from- it’s going to the best!
